“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” Paulo Coelho
As well as helping me with my goal of reaching my best level of fitness, my personal trainer is also keeping track of what I’m consuming in a typical week. Throughout this process, I’ve managed to kick my bad habits and am happy to be on track to being a golden student 🙂 In conversation, I asked him what bad habits he had, if any, and he really had to think hard about it. He finally replied, ‘None, because before I eat anything, I ask myself what benefit is it going to bring me.’
This got me thinking. What a great question to ask yourself in multiple scenarios.
What benefit is it going to bring me?
When you’re choosing a bad habit over a good one, ask yourself this question.
When you’re running negative thought patterns, ask yourself this question.
When you’re procrastinating, ask yourself this question.
When you’re living your days dominated by negative emotions rather than positive, ask yourself this question.
When you’re worrying about something that you can’t control, ask yourself this question.
When you’re being drawn into a collective gossip or whine, ask yourself this question.
When you’re refusing to see someone else’s point of view, ask yourself this question.
It’s a powerful question that can help shift a repeat pattern that doesn’t serve you. Robin Sharma says small daily improvements over time lead to stunning results. This question can certainly help get you started.
