“We will be more successful in all our endeavours if we can let go of the habit of running all the time, and take little pauses to relax and re-centre ourselves. And we’ll also have a lot more joy in living.” Thich Nhat Hanh

With an imminent festive break about to hit most of us, I reckon we’d be smart to take advice from a true champion. In a recent interview, Andy Murray claimed that managing his rest and recovery periods much better is what he can attribute to his recent world No.1 performance.

In an interview with ESPN, he claimed that in the past he would get right back out there on the court to play or practice after a tournament, but had now broken that habit, one which was borne out of an infamous work ethic, and created instead what felt like a counter intuitive new habit – one that has him approaching his post match routine differently and building in rest and recovery as a priority.

We may not be training like the elite athletes do, but in our own worlds I doubt we build in enough rest and recovery time too.

For most of us now of course is the perfect time to do so, and I would highly recommend adding to your Santa list enforced R&R. I’m certainly going to do so, and will be switching off at the end of the week for three weeks.

Thank you for reading my newsletter and for all your support this year. I look forward to seeing you in 2017!

Have a great festive break packed full to the brim of quality R&R!
